A Picture of Potential Failure in 2030 for the Treasure Coast
Economic System: High unemployment; higher taxes, negative job growth, depressed real estate values.

THE SHARED Vision of Success in 2030- May, 2004

The Treasure Coast has Achieved a Diversified and Prosperous Economy.
The region’s diversified and vital economy was achieved through collaborative planning that started 25 years ago, and has led to retention, expansion and creation of higher wage jobs within the region’s businesses. This has brought the Treasure Coast the highest per capita income, highest wages, and lowest unemployment in the nation. The Treasure Coast has established a business environment that supports re-invention and risk taking and balances collaboration with competition. The quality of local citrus received recognition at the latest world conference, and citrus sales are at their highest point ever.

Economic Diversity Vision Goals

A. The Treasure Coast will achieve a diverse economy through retention, expansion and attraction of higher wage jobs within contributory businesses.

B. The region should initially target existing industries as retention targets such as citrus / agriculture, aviation, marine sciences, life science and construction. The region should then assess and reach agreement on expansion and creation targets of opportunity.

C. The Treasure Coast will promote a business environment that balances collaboration with competition and supports re-invention and risk taking.

D. The Treasure Coast will develop an understanding of the positive role and impact of a diverse economy and businesses on the quality of life in communities and the prosperity of citizens throughout the region.
